I wondered how crushes got their name. Did the other definitions of the word crush, like being smashed, squeezed, squashed or pressed, have some relation to the way you felt when you had a crush on someone?

Was it about having your heart feel like it was going to swell up and crush against your ribs and organs, just from liking someone so much?
